LOCKPORT, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's tennis team took NCAA II Lewis University to extended play in four of nine matches Thursday and came away with wins in two of those contests in a 5-2 setback at Challenge Fitness.
Three of the four tight matches came on the singles side highlighted by victories from
Anna Bintsarovskaya and
Denisse Lizano. Bintsarovskaya rallied to win at No. 1, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5), while Lizano claimed her victory in the No. 3 slot, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Lieke Coenen also took her opponent at No. 4 singles to a third-set tiebreaker before falling 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3).
Coenen and Bintsarovskaya were just as competitive on the doubles side, as well, coming up just short in a 7-6 (7-3) setback at No. 1.
Lewis (7-4) won the other two doubles matches by 6-2 and 6-0 counts. The Flyers' other wins came at Nos. 2, 5 and 6 singles.
The Saints (3-5) return to action on Monday hosting Grace College (Ind.) at 12:30 pm.
