LOCKPORT, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's tennis team used four victories in singles play to notch its first team win of the season with its 4-3 decision over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Sunday afternoon at Challenge Fitness.
The Saints (1-2) claimed wins in each of the top four slots after dropping two of three matches in doubles play. The team of
Lieke Coenen and
Gabriella Noa captured the only doubles match, winning 6-1 in the No. 1 slot. In the other two doubles matches, Wisconsin Lutheran (7-7) won by identical 6-3 margins to go up 1-0.
USF gained its first point of the match when
Anna Bintsarovskaya nearly swept her contest at No. 1 with her 6-1, 6-0 victory. Coenen then gained her second win of the day when she came out victorious at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1.
Wisconsin Lutheran then regained the lead 3-2 with singles wins at Nos. 5 and 6.
Viyaleta Hordzich brought the match back even at three-all with her 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 before
Heather Heintz won it for the Saints with her 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) decision at No. 3.
The Saints take the rest of the week off before competing in Florida the week of March 6-12.
