Harris' Career-High 19 Points Not Enough In Regular-Season Finale Setback

GARY, Ind. --- Le'lani Harris scored a career-high 19 points and authored the second double-double of her collegiate career, but the University of St. Francis women's basketball team struggled to find its offensive game in closing out the regular season with a 65-59 setback to Indiana University Northwest in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.  The loss snapped the Saints' six-game winning streak.

USF's 28.8 percent mark from the field (21-of-73) was its second-lowest reading of the season, while its 18.9 percent effort from three-point range (7-of-37) marked just the third time that the team has shot under 20 percent from that distance.  The Saints (21-6, 16-4 CCAC) also converted at just a 55.6 percent clip at the free throw line (10-of-18).

Indiana Northwest countered with percentages of 45.8 from the field (22-of-48), 30.8 from three-point range (4-of-13) and 54.8 from the charity stripe (17-of-31).

After Indiana Northwest (22-6, 17-3) led the entire first half – but not by more than eight points – the Saints looked to get on track in the third quarter.  That is when USF had its best shooting numbers on the day, going 6-for-13 from the field and 4-of-5 at the foul line to take a 44-42 lead into the fourth quarter.  Head coach John McGinty's club outscored the hosts 17-11 in the quarter.

Indiana Northwest responded with a pair of unanswered runs in the final frame, including a 9-0 run to open the quarter.  USF would cut that 51-44 deficit down to two points (53-51) by the 5:47 mark only to have the RedHawks go on another 8-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 61-51 with 51 seconds remaining.  IUNW saved its best for last by shooting 63.6 percent (7-of-11) in the closing quarter after converting at just over a 40 percent clip through the first three periods.

Besides Harris' 19 points and ten rebounds, the Saints also collected 15 points, 12 rebounds and four steals from Jordan Pyle, 13 points from Hannah Swiatek and 10 rebounds from Justene Charlesworth.

Sarah Martin produced 16 points and nine rebounds for IUNW, while Tiara Jackson recorded 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Notes: Pyle's double-double was her sixth of the season … USF's 25 fouls were a season high, while its seven turnovers were its second-fewest … The Saints had 20 second-chance points to five for Indiana Northwest courtesy of their 19 offensive rebounds … Both IUNW's 45 rebounds and six blocks were the most by a St. Francis opponent this season … The RedHawks also snapped USF's streak of holding opponents under 40 percent shooting from the field at six games by coming in at 45.8 percent … The Saints open CCAC Tournament play on Wednesday as the No. 4 seed hosting Saint Xavier University at 7 pm.
