Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Career Highs From Pellegrini, Kennelly Not Enough In Loss To NAIA #22 Indiana South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- Career-high performances from Talia Pellegrini and Mia Kennelly were not enough to derail NAIA No. 22-ranked Indiana University South Bend as the Titans remained perfect on the season with an 86-69 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over the University of St. Francis women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon.

Pellegrini and Kennelly both hit five three-pointers en route to their 19- and 15-point contests, respectively.  Pellegrini's 19 points and five treys were both career highs, while Kennelly tied her all-time bests in both categories.

Laurelei Thormeyer also netted 15 points to go along with a career high of her own with her seven assists.  Tykara Harrison came off the bench to register 14 points.

Indiana South Bend (10-0, 4-0 CCAC) collected all but two of its points from its starting lineup highlighted by Tenleigh Phelps' school-record 42 points on 17-of-22 shooting from the field with two three-pointers and nine rebounds.  Maddie Gard added 18 points with Katie Gard and Jazmen Watts recording nine points each.  The latter also totaled a game-high ten rebounds.

The Titans jumped out to a 22-5 advantage at the start and shot .857 from the field (12-of-14) in the opening ten minutes to lead 26-15.  IUSB would never led by less than eight points the rest of the afternoon with USF (6-5, 2-2) forcing that deficit early in the second quarter.

The hosts would go on to build 20- and 22-point leads in the second and third quarters with the Saints battling back each time.  Four straight treys that started at the end of the second quarter and stretched into the third from Kennelly, Pellegrini and Thormeyer keyed the first rally.

Harrison's six points fueled the second comeback, which had USF get to 79-69 with just under three minutes remaining before the Titans scored the final seven points of the contest.

IUSB finished the game shooting .545 (36-of-66) after going 21-for-31 (.677) in the opening half.  The Saints produced a .429 mark from the field (24-of-56), while tying a season high with their 13 three-pointers.

Notes: Thormeyer's seven assists were also a team high for the season … Pellegrini and Harrison have both scored in double figures in four straight games … Phelps was consistent throughout the game, scoring 12 points each in the first, second and fourth quarters and six points in the third … USF's only other game during the month of December comes on Dec. 21 when the Saints play host to Viterbo University (Wis.) in the final non-conference game of the year.
