JOLIET, Ill. --- A closing 25-7 run by Indiana University Northwest along with the RedHawks going a perfect 21-for-21 at the foul line denied the University of St. Francis men's basketball team from extending its winning streak to three games in a 75-67 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference setback at the Pat Sullivan Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Saints (2-3, 1-2 CCAC) had taken their biggest lead of the game at 60-50 with 8:37 remaining in the contest only to net the seven points the rest of the way. USF turned the ball over nine times in the final eight-plus minutes and did not make a field goal in the closing 6:49.Â
Indiana Northwest, meanwhile, went 7-for-14 from the field down the stretch, including a trio of three-pointers, and made good on all eight of its free throws to spark the turnaround. Up until the late rally, the RedHawks had missed 12 of their first 16 shots in the second half (25 pct.) after going 12-for-23 (52.2 pct.) in the game's first 20 minutes to gain a 38-31 advantage at the break.
The Saints erased that seven-point deficit and turned it into a 45-40 lead in the first five minutes after the intermission with a 14-2 run.Â
EJ Charles started the rally with a dunk and tallied half of USF's 14 points during the flip of the game.Â
Dakoda Joachim provided another four points, while
Te Jones hit a three-pointer.
Eight ties and eight lead changes made up three-quarters of the contest as both teams finished with an identical 23-for-53 shooting mark from the field. Indiana Northwest (5-4, 2-1) doubled up on the Saints on three-pointers (8-4), while also connecting on four more free throws than USF, which went 17-for-22 at the charity stripe.
Jones tied for game-high scoring honors with IUNW's Jalen Houston. Both players finished with 18 points. Other Saints in double figures were Charles (14), Joachim (10) and
Ben Faatz (10, 7 rebounds).
