JOLIET, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to five games with its most decisive decision of the season, a 6-0 win over Governors State University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night at Joliet Memorial Stadium. Five different Saints produced goals with eight players in all contributing either a goal or an assist.
Litzy Mendez started the highest scoring output of the season for USF (2-5-5, 2-1-3 CCAC) with her back-to-back goals ten minutes apart over the contest's first 16 minutes.
Emily Galvan and
Alexis Marroquin provided the assists on the goals, which proved to be more than enough on this night.
Kelly Flores and
Andrea Aguirre doubled the goal count to 4-0 between the 19th and 29th minutes with
Ixchel Pelayo assisting on Flores' tally. The Saints would go on to add two more goals just two minutes apart early in the second half with
Abbey Janeczek and Marroquin connecting off passes from
Mia Ocana on both goals.
Krystal Rodriguez registered her second shutout of the season, recording four saves on the night, all of which came in the closing 45 minutes of the contest.
USF outshot Governors State (3-6, 1-4) by a 25-10 count, including 16-4 on goal.
Notes: In its last three games, the Saints have outscored their opponents 12-1 … After scoring just two goals in its first three home games, St. Francis has totaled 14 goals in its last three games at Joliet Memorial Stadium … With her two goals on the night, Mendez moved into a tie for first place on the team in both goals (four) and total points (nine) with
Isabel Diez … The multi-goal game was Mendez's fourth of her career … Tuesday marked the fourth time in Marroquin's career that she contributed both a goal and an assist in the same match … The goals by Marroquin, Janeczek and Flores were all their second of the season, while Aguirre's was her first … Ocana is now tied with Flores for the most assists on the team with three each … Marroquin's assist was her second of the campaign, while Pelayo and Galvan both notched their first … Rodriguez moved into a tie for second place on the USF career shutout list with her ninth such game … St. Francis' 16 shots on goal were its most in the 2023 season … The shutout was the team's third … The Saints are back home on Saturday when they host CCAC foe Saint Xavier University at 1 pm.
