Saints Claim Governors State Jaguars Fall Invitational Title

FRANKFORT, Ill. --- In just its second tournament of the season, the University of St. Francis men's golf team scored its first team victory of the 2022-23 campaign with a 19-stroke win at the Governors State University Jaguars Fall Invitational on Wednesday.

The Saints boasted four of the top five golfers in the field of 34 competitors and six players placed in the upper half of the leaderboard at Green Garden Country Club.

Nolan Weis headlined the attack for the second day in a row along with Luke Petrovic.  Both players shot two-over-par 74.  John Weis was one back at 75 followed by EJ Charles – competing as an individual – at 77.

USF's other scoring came from Brandyn Collins with his 83 to finish in a tie for 14th place.

Also finishing in the top half for the Saints was Andrew Rada with an 84 (T-16th).

Saint Xavier University's Michael Furlong captured individual medalist honors with his even-par 72.

The Saints finished the day with a team score of 306.  Saint Xavier was next in line at 325 followed by host Governors State at 329.

Notes: Nolan Weis is averaging a 74.6 over his first three rounds of the season … Charles' performance was his first in nearly a year after missing the spring season with a knee injury … Nathan Lunde made his USF debut on Wednesday totaling an 89 … The Saints host their own Fall Invitational at Wedgewood Golf Course next Tuesday.
