AURORA, Ill. ---
Nolan Weis opened the University of St. Francis men's golf team's 2022-23 campaign in strong fashion, placing in a tie for 13th overall with a six-over-par score in the 36-hole Aurora University Spartan Double Gun on Tuesday at the Aurora Country Club.
Weis helped the Saints to a seventh-place finish in the 18-team event. Head coach
Paul Downey's club shot a 622 over the two rounds.
Host Aurora University captured the team title with its 590-stroke total. A pair of Hope College (Mich.) teams were next in line at 593 and 594.Â
Liam Casey of Hope claimed individual medalist honors with identical rounds of 72 for an even-par 144.
Weis opened with a 74 in his first go-round and closed out the day with a 76 for a two-round total of 150. Those were two of the four best rounds for the Saints on the day.
Garnering runnerup honors for USF was
Eric Gasienica, who finished in 33rd place with his two-round 157 (75-82).Â
John Weis was one stroke back at 158 (83-75).
Rounding out USF's scoring was newcomer
Andrew Rada with a 160 (76-84) and
Luke Petrovic with a 164 (81-83).
Notes: USF landed five sub-80 scores among their ten total rounds … The Saints get right back on the links Wednesday when they compete in the Governors State University Jaguars Fall Invitational at Green Garden Country Club in Frankfort.
