Sippel Leaves Saints As One Of Only Two Remaining Unbeatens In CCAC Tournament

CROWN POINT, Ind. --- Kaylie Sippel's RBI single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning left the University of St. Francis softball team as one of only two remaining unbeaten in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament following the Saints' 4-3 victory over St. Ambrose University Sunday afternoon.

USF (27-13) had opened up a 3-0 lead in the first inning only to have St. Ambrose rally to knot the score at three all in the fifth inning. Brittany Osborne sparked both scoring innings for the Saints with her single in the first inning and her walk in the seventh frame. She finished the day 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Osborne's first inning single was one of four among the first five Saint batters in the contest. Following an out to the second batter, Danielle Callahan, Sippel, and Bridget McDermott (2 for 3) all laced singles to produce the first run.

McDermott made it a 2-0 game when she scored on a wild pitch before Maddie Eckberg provided a two out, run scoring single to left field for the 3-0 lead.

In the seventh inning, Osborne moved into scoring position on an error, advanced to third on a sacrifice by Gracyn Gabriel and scored the walk off winner on Sippel's single. The hit was Sippel's team leading third of the day.

McDermott claimed her 17th win of the season against only three losses in the circle. She allowed only four hits, while striking out five batters.
