Villasenor Dominates, Saints Win By 10-Plus Runs For Third Game In A Row

JOLIET, Ill. --- University of St. Francis starting pitcher Nick Villasenor proved to be the big tease at Duly Health and Care Field on Friday afternoon. After getting Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Judson University thinking that it might have a big offensive day after opening the contest with a leadoff home run, the senior left hander dominated the rest of the way in a 12-2 Saints victory.

At one point, Villasenor (4-3) retired 11 straight batters before yielding a pair of hits, his only walk and the Eagles' second run in the eighth inning. That is also when the Saints (16-20, 12-5 CCAC) closed the door on the afternoon with five unearned runs keyed by a two run double from Luke Ketchum and a triple by Sam Tumilty one batter later.

At the same time that Villasenor was retiring the Eagle hitters in order. USF's offense was kicking in. After being held scoreless through the first three innings, the Saints produced no less than two runs over the middle three frames with all seven runs over that three inning span coming after two outs.

Tumilty (3-for-5, 3 RBIs) started the scoring with his slap shot to right field and Vera added the second run with his single to right center field. Tumilty drove home another run in the fifth inning, the same inning that Ketchum started his three hit, four-RBI day. Jake LaSota provided two runs batted in, as well.

Eric Maffie also recorded three hits and scored three times as the Saints won by 10 plus runs for the third game in a row and totaled another 14 hits.

Villasenor went all eight innings. After allowing the leadoff home run, he yielded just three other hits over the next six innings until the two hit eighth inning. He finished the game giving up six hits and only the one walk, while striking out six batters.
