Saints Come Up Just Short Against Olivet Nazarene

LOCKPORT, Ill. --- Back and forth they went all afternoon long, but in the end Olivet Nazarene University claimed the final match of the day to win the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest versus the University of St. Francis men's tennis team by a 4-3 count Saturday at Challenge Fitness.

Paul Wottgen led the way for the Saints (2-13, 0-2 CCAC) with a pair of victories, including his 7-6, (7-5), 7-6 (7-3) win at No.4 singles to tie the match up at three all. Wottgen also teamed up with Aidan Flores at No.3 doubles to open play on the day with a 6-2 victory.

USF's other win in doubles action to put the Saints up 1-0 came from the No.1 team of Sebastian Bahamondes and Erwan Le Guennec, 7-5.

After Olivet Nazarene (3-10, 1-0) tied the match at one-all with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No.1 singles, Daniel Espinosa put the Saints back up 2-1 with his 6-4, 6-3 win in the No.3 slot.  USF nearly made it 3-1 at No.2 singles, but ONU was able to rally for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory and then went on to win at No. 5 6-4, 6-4.

Wottgen got the match back even for the third time only to have the Tigers capture the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No.6 singles.
