McDermott Tosses Shutout, Saints Split With Lincoln

LINCOLN, Ill. --- Bridget McDermott recorded her third shutout of the season enabling the University of St. Francis softball team to gain a split of its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Lincoln College on Saturday afternoon. McDermott and the Saints scored a 4-0 first-game victory, while Lincoln won Game 2 by a 6-4 count.

McDermott also helped herself offensively with a pair of hits in the first game, while driving in one run in each of the two contests. Gracyn Gabriel also brought home runs in each end of the twin bill and totaled three runs batted in on the day.

Brittany Osborne led the Saints (14-8, 4-2 CCAC) with five hits on the day. She was one of three USF players to register hits in both games. The other two were Kaylie Sippel and Madisen Tucker, each of whom provided three hits.

Game 1: USF 4, Lincoln 0
Clutch two out hitting and McDermott's pitching keyed the win in Game 1. The Saints broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Gabriel drove in the first of her three runs on the day with a two out single. Singles from McDermott and Sippel earlier in the inning set up that run with the second run in the frame coming home on an error.

McDermott (9-1) helped herself one inning later with a two out, run scoring double before the Saints tacked on another unearned run in the sixth inning. On the mound, McDermott went all seven innings, striking out three batters. She did allow nine hits, but forced three double plays in the seven innings.

Osborne joined McDermott in authoring two hits in the contest. She also scored one of the runs.

Game 2: Lincoln 6, USF 4
Lincoln was able to get the split decision by scoring at least one run in each of the final four innings. The Saints countered the Lynx's first two runs, but a two run fifth inning put Lincoln (10-12, 3-7) up for good.

Osborne posted three more hits and drove in one run, while Sippel and Tucker accounted for four of the other five hits with two each. Gabriel drove home two of USF's runs with McDermott and Osborne producing the other two.
