Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Saints Come Up Just Short Against Saint John's

ORLANDO, Fla. --- In a match that featured the maximum four ties, the University of St. Francis men's tennis team just missed out on recording its first victory of its swing through Florida, dropping a 5-4 decision to Saint John's University (Minn.) on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite the two teams finishing up the contest with doubles play, the match between USF's Daniel Espinosa and Saint John's Daniel Perez at No.3 singles proved to be the deciding one in the end. Espinosa opened with a 6-4 first-set victory before Perez rallied to win Set 2 7-6 (7-4). The latter then claimed the third set tie breaker by a 10-6 count.

Saint John's (6-0) went on to earn two of the three doubles victories with the duo of Will Fischer and Mark Rosen breaking the final tie with their 8-5 win in the No.2 slot. USF's win in doubles play came from the tandem of Sebastian Bahamondes and Erwan Le Guennec, an 8-2 victory at No.1, which was the second win of the day for both players.  Saint John's reversed the order of that score at No.3 doubles to start tandem play.

The split decisions in singles action saw Paul Wottgen join Bahamondes and Le Guennec in the winner's circle. Wottgen opened the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No.4 slot, while Bahamondes won 6-2, 6-3 at No.1. Le Guennec gained the third win with his 6-2, 6-2 decision at No.2.
