LOCKPORT, Ill. --- After opening with a sweep of doubles play, the University of St. Francis women's tennis team fell one singles victory short of getting back to the .500 mark after dropping a 4-3 decision to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday.
USF (2-4) scored convincing wins on the doubles side, losing just two games to claim the first point of the match. The No.1 team of
Nikkie Christiansen and
Gabriella Noa as well as the No.3 duo of
Yashleen Kheterpal and
Maria Kuzminskaya each won 6-1, while the No.2 team of
Denisse Lizano and
Kiana Sikich did not yield a game in winning 6-0.
Noa also won at No.1 singles in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, while
Viyaleta Hordzich gained the other win in singles, 6-2, 6-4, at No.2.
Following Noa's win, Wisconsin Lutheran (9-6) rallied to take a 3-2 lead with victories at Nos. 3, 4, and 5. Hordzich then tied the contest at three all before
Haley Olson outlasted
Amanda Dutkiewicz at No. 6, 7-5, 7-5, to clinch the match.
