JOLIET, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's basketball team closed out the regular season and celebrated Senior Day with its tenth win in a row on Saturday afternoon, claiming a 68-60 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Indiana University Northwest at the Sullivan Center. The win also gave the Saints revenge for an earlier 57-53 setback to the RedHawks back on Dec. 1.
Honored before the game were seniors
Andriana Acosta,
Justene Charlesworth,
Maria Cruz Uceda,
Carleen Jones,
Shadrian McDaniel,
Jordan Pyle, and
Kalyn Sias-Chaney. Three of those individuals were also part of a four person contingent to score in double figures.
Leading the way was Pyle with 17 points with Acosta registering her 11th double double of the season (15 points, game-high 10 rebounds). Charlesworth and
Braxtin Mickens chipping in with 13 points each.
The latter two were key to winning the three point battle, which turned out to be the difference in the end for the second game in a row. Both players contributed three treys each. The two teams matched each other on total field goals with 24 each, but the Saints (23-6, 20-2 CCAC) came away with a 9-4 advantage on three pointers. USF converted from beyond the arc at a .391 clip (9-for-23), while Indiana Northwest (19-10, 14-8) made just four of 21 (.190).
Neither team could pull away from the other all afternoon long. Only once did either team have a double-figure scoring advantage and that lead – 57-47 in favor of USF – lasted just nine seconds in the fourth quarter. For the game, there were six ties and 11 lead changes. Micken's three pointer to close out the third quarter gave the Saints the lead for good and started them on a 12-0 run to build the 10-point lead. Indiana Northwest could only get as close as four points the rest of the afternoon.
Another key contributor for USF was Sias-Chaney, who delivered seven assists and eight points.
Indiana Northwest's
Tiara Jackson led all scorers with 19 points. She also tied Acosta for game-high rebounding honors with ten boards.
