Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Trio of Hitters Lead Saints To Win Over Governors State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. --- Aided by its second-best attacking percentage of the season, the University of St. Francis women's volleyball team scored a 25-13, 20-25, 25-9, 25-21 victory over Governors State University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday night.

The trio of Stephanie Woods, Gabriela Oliveira and Taylor Connolly keyed the win with all three players hitting at a .400 clip or better.  Woods gained the most kills with her 13 to go along with a .400 attack percentage, Oliveira collected 11 kills and recorded a .409 hitting mark and Taylor Connolly notched eight kills and a .438 attack reading.

Those numbers helped the Saints (19-15, 10-4 CCAC) finish with a .299 overall attack percentage, including a .560 mark in the first set and a .435 report in the third set when USF led from start to finish.

Hannah Pacheco and Kaylie Sippel teamed up for 33 assists with Pacheco's 21 pacing the Saints.  Sippel, meanwhile, led the team in aces with four and registered a double-double with her 11 digs.

Hannah Monfre provided another three aces and a club-high 13 digs.

USF took an early 9-4 lead and then used a 6-0 run with two aces from Sippel and two kills from Desiree Anderson to pull away in Set 1.

In Set 2, it was Governors State (6-16, 1-13) that jumped out to 7-1 and 12-4 leads.  USF got to within three points four separate times, but could get no closer.

Woods supplied two kills early as part of an 11-2 opening burst and then had another two late during a 5-0 run to put the Saints up two games to one.

Oliveira fueled a 6-0 surge with three kills in Set 4 to break up a 13-all tie en route to the match victory.

Notes: USF's 15 services aces in the match were a season-high effort as were Sippel's four for her … Pacheco's 21 assists marked the fifth time this season that she has reached 20-plus assists in a match … Sippel's double-double was her fourth of the campaign … The Saints wrap up their busy week on Saturday night when they host Indiana University South Bend at 7 pm.
