LOCKPORT, Ill.--- The University of St. Francis women's tennis team earned its fourth straight victory Tuesday afternoon with a 5-2 decision over Olivet Nazarene University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Challenge Fitness Tennis Courts.
The USF tandem of Kiana Sikach (FR/Mokena, Ill.) and Denisse Lizano (SO/Quito, Ecuador) opened the match with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. After Olivet Nazarene tied it at one-all with a win in the No.1 slot, it was up to the duo of Yashleen Kheterpal (SR/Bhilai, India) and Grace Monahan (JR/New Lenox, Ill.) to win the first point for the Saints. The duo was placed in a hard-fought battle against Coco Ruggiero and Mia Schwada, but ultimately came out victorious in a 7-6 decision after winning the tie-breaker, 7-4.
All four doubles winners were also victorious in singles action. Sikich took a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No.4 singles to get things started for the Saints. Kheterpal followed with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No.5.
Lizano dropped her first set to Olivet Nazarene's Heidi Mayo at No.2, but was able to overcome the early adversity and win the final two sets, 6-4, 6-0. It marked her fifth straight victory in succession.
Monahan rounded things off for the Saints with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Ruggiero at the No.6 spot.
The Saints are now 4-4 overall and 3-1 in CCAC action after gaining their first victory over Olivet Nazarene in their last 16 attempts.
Next up for the Saints is a trip to Milwaukee to take on the No.7 nationally-ranked Cardinal Stritch Wolves on Sunday (April 11). Opening serve is scheduled for 11 am.
