Saints Shutout for Just the Second Time This Season

ELGIN, Ill. --- Tying its season-low hit total with just two singles, the University of St. Francis baseball team was shutout for just the second time this season when it dropped a 10-0 decision to Judson University in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday afternoon.

The Saints (19-18, 16-12 CCAC) were also limited to just two hits in a 3-1 setback to Trinity Christian College in the first game of a doubleheader back on March 27, while being held scoreless in the second game of the year, a 13-0 loss to Lewis University on Feb. 28.

For the second day in a row, the opposition put a four-spot on the scoreboard in the first inning before adding a pair of runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings each. A total of six Eagles authored multi-hit games.

USF's only opportunity to score came in the fourth inning when designated hitter Foster Heise (GR/Lisle, Ill.) produced the team's first hit only to have third baseman Josh Tesch (GR/Lockport, Ill.) get thrown out at the plate on the play to end the inning. Tesch had initially reached base on an error.

The Saints' only other hit came from center fielder Luke Ketchum (GR/Springfield, Ill.), who opened the sixth inning with his single.

Brandon Callender (4-4) went the distance on the mound for the Eagles (21-16, 20-8). He struck out eight batters, while not allowing a walk.

The two teams wrap up their regular season on Saturday at DuPage Medical Group Field for a 1 pm doubleheader.
