Holy Cross Ends Saints' CCAC Title Hopes

NOTRE DAME.---  The University of St. Francis women's tennis team saw an end to their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference title hopes after a 4-3 loss to Holy Cross in the semifinal round Wednesday afternoon.
 

Denisse Lizano and Kiana Sikich got things started for the Saints with a 6-3 victory at the No.1 slot. After dropping the match at No.2, The first point of the match came down to the matchup at No.3 doubles where Yashleen Kheterpal and Grace Monahan resided. 
 

Kheterpal and Monahan took their opponents to a tiebreaker set but ultimately fell to HCC's Lucy Burns and Julie Wappel. The victory granted Holy Cross the first point of the match. 
 

Holy Cross would open singles action with a victory at No.4 singles. The Saints would rally behind wins from Kheterpal and Monahan at the No.5 and No.6 slots respectively. Nikkie Christiansen put on a valiant effort at No.2 singles but unfortunately fell 6-3, 6-4 to Jabeen Urbanek who would give Holy Cross a 3-2.
 

Lizano would earn her second victory of the day with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No.1 singles and tied the match at three-all. The final match to play would be at the No.3 slot where Maria Kuzminiskaya faced off against Clara Ruediger with a trip to the finals on the line. 
 

Kuzminiskaya played hard but, unfortunately, fell 6-3, 6-4 to Ruediger. The 4-3 result mirrored the previous matchup between the pair on March 20.  
 

The Saints finish the abbreviated 2020-21 season with a 5-7 record overall and a 3-3 record in conference play.
