ROSEMONT, Ill. --- Roosevelt University scored a pair of late runs in its first game against the University of St. Francis softball team before plating eight runs in the first four innings of the nightcap to claim 2-1 and 9-4 victories in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday afternoon.
The Saints (18-8, 8-6 CCAC) were limited to just four hits in the opener, but did notch ten in the second game. Roosevelt (32-12, 13-7) countered with nine and 12.
Second baseman Christina Lorenzatti (FR/Beecher, Ill.) authored a pair of multi-hit games, going 4-for-6 on the day with two runs scored.
Game 1 --- Roosevelt 2, USF 1
Roosevelt rallied with singles runs in the sixth and seventh innings to claim the come-from-behind victory. The winning run scored on a Rebecca Bluder single after Reyann Kruger opened the inning with a triple.
The Lakers' first run came on a two-out hit, matching that of the Saints, who picked up theirs in the third inning on a Brittany Osborne (SO/Romeoville, Ill.) double.
Two of USF's four hits came in that inning with the other two produced in the sixth and seventh innings. Lorenzatti provided half of the offense with a single and a double in three at bats.
Hannah Vachon (JR/Oxford, Mich.) (7-3) took the loss.
Game 2 --- Roosevelt 9, USF 4
After scoring late in Game 1, Roosevelt continued its run production right at the start of Game 2 with one run in the first inning, three in the second and four in the fourth.
Doubles were the story of the game with the hosts totaling six and the Saints netting four. USF also registered a run-scoring triple from center fielder Carlie Benes (JR/Valparaiso, Neb.), who would score on the same play via an error.
St. Francis' other runs came on a groundout by pinch hitter Kaylie Sippel (FR/Beecher, Ill.) and a sacrifice fly from Osborne. The Saints split their four runs evenly between the third and seventh innings.
Benes, Lorenzatti, third baseman Danielle Callahan (JR/New Lenox, Ill.) and catcher Maddie Massaro (JR/Romeoville, Ill.) all collected two hits.
Madisen Tucker (JR/St. John, Ind.) (8-1) saw her season-opening eight-game winning streak come to an end in the circle.
The Saints continue their stretch of eight games in four days on Friday (April 30) when they host St. Ambrose University in a CCAC doubleheader beginning at 4 pm.
