DEERFIELD, Ill. --- After a slow 2-6 start, the University of St. Francis baseball team has climbed its way back to the .500 mark after securing its fifth straight win with a 9-2 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Trinity International University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Saints (11-11, 9-7 CCAC) scored in seven of nine innings in the contest, which was more than enough run support for starting pitcher Angel Sandoval (Garfield Ridge, Ill.), who tossed seven innings of shutout baseball before giving way to Kevin Kardas (Hampshire, Ill.) to close the game out.
Sandoval allowed only four hits and one walk, while striking out five batters in improving to 2-4 on the season.
Third baseman Josh Tesch (GR/Lockport, Ill.) and left fielder Shawn Harper (GR/Plainfield, Ill.) each drove in a pair of runs on the day, while Travis Schoonover (GR/Braidwood, Ill.), and Luke Ketchum (GR/Springfield, Ill.) provided two hits each leading to two and three runs scored, respectively, for the pair of outfielders.
The Saints also took advantage of three Trinity International errors leading to a pair of unearned runs.
USF gets right back at it on Wednesday when it hosts Calumet College of St. Joseph in a CCAC doubleheader beginning at 3 pm.
