Saints Drop Season Finale to Cardinal Stritch

MILWAUKEE, Ill.---- The University of St. Francis women's soccer team closed out its season with a 7-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference setback to Cardinal Stritch University on Wednesday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Ellie Provo (SR/Dixon, Ill.) and the Saint defense had their hands full with the Cardinal Stritch offense in the opening half. The Wolves (8-1, 8-1 CCAC) sent nine of their 16 first-half shots towards the net. The fast-paced start led CSU to scoring three goals in eight minutes as well as adding one more score at the 34th minute. The Saints went into halftime down 4-0 and were only able to get off two shots in the opening 45 minutes.

USF was able to muster some offense in the second half with a shot attempt from Nataley Salgado (JR/Chicago, Ill.). However, her bid at breaking up the shutout was thwarted by CSU goalkeeper Maria Amenieros and the Wolves scored their fifth goal on the counter-attack.

Cardinal Stritch was able to put in two more goals near the end of the half in cruising to the victory.

Provo was able to save seven of the 14 attempted shots on goal by the Wolves. Amenieros made three saves on the afternoon with Marina Johnstone collecting one more in relief for the combined shutout.

With the loss, the Saints conclude their season at 2-8-1 overall and 1-8-1 in league play.
