Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Saints Fall in Four Sets to Trinity Christian

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Looking to sweep its season series with Trinity Christian College, the University of St. Francis women's volleyball team found out that the Trolls had other thoughts as they came away with a 26-24, 15-25, 25-15, 25-12 victory in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday night.

The two teams initially met back on Feb. 27 with the Saints winning in the minimum three sets 25-23, 25-22, 25-18.

Both teams battled each other tough in the first set with St. Francis rallying from two separate five-point deficits including 20-15. The Saints would eventually knot the score at 24-all only to have a Sarah Kiwan kill and an attacking error give the hosts the 26-24 nod.

USF gained retribution in the second set scoring seven of the first nine points. Trinity Christian pulled to within one point two times before the Saints would use a second 7-2 surge to pull away with the victory.

After that, the rest of the night belonged to Trinity Christian. The Trolls tallied 10 of the final 13 points in Set 3 and ran away with Set 4 by scoring 21 of the first 30 points.

The win kept Trinity Christian (15-7, 13-3 CCAC) in contention for the league title, while St. Francis fell to 12-10 overall and 9-7 in the conference.

USF struggled with its attacking game for the majority of the night finishing with just a 5.1 percent reading. The lone two bright spots were Taylor Valant (SR/St. Anne, Ill.) and Lauren Stefanski (SR/Plainfield, Ill.). Valant produced a team-best nine kills and .292 attack percentage. Stefanski added six kills and a .278 hitting mark.

TCC's Anna Maatman was tough to stop finishing with a match-high 17 kills and a .342 attack percentage.

Defensively, USF picked up 20 digs from Hannah Monfre (SO/Franklin, Wis.).

The Saints head to Milwaukee on Tuesday (March 30) to take on Cardinal Stritch University in a league matchup beginning at 7 pm.
