JOLIET, Ill. --- Governors State University used a 24-point fourth quarter to rally and pull off the biggest upset of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) season thus far, defeating the NAIA No.13 ranked University of St. Francis women's basketball team 51-49 at the Sullivan Center on Wednesday night.

Heading into the final stanza, the Jaguars (5-8, 3-0 CCAC) had amassed just 27 points and were coming off a third quarter in which they converted just three of their 12 shots from the field (25 percent). But in the fourth quarter, Governors State made good on seven of its 11 attempts (63.6 percent), including both three-point tries, to turn the game around.

An unanswered 10-point run one-third of the way through the final quarter proved to be the biggest blow, turning a 37-33 deficit into a 43-37 lead Governor State and one it would never relinquish. USF (17-3, 5-1) would get within one point on two occasions in the closing 68 seconds, but could never get over the top.

The Saints had three separate chances to either force a tie or take the lead the first time trailing 45-44 with 1:08 to play. They could have done the same in the last seven seconds, but could not get the rebound on a missed Governors State free throw with the score at 48-46. That resulted in two more free throws for the Jaguars, who finished the contest outscoring the Saints 13-5 on second chance points.

The loss snapped both an overall six-game winning streak and seven straight victories at home for the Saints with a rare slow start also contributing to the setback. Governors State jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest with the Saints going the first four-plus minutes without scoring. They would finish the quarter with only eight points on 3-of-13 shooting. Fortunately, they only trailed 10-8 at the stop and 19-18 at the break.

USF's biggest lead came in the third quarter, where it tallied eight of the first nine points to gain its biggest lead of the night (26-20) with 3:42 to play in the quarter.

The 51 points allowed by the Saints marked just the fifth time they had yielded that many points with three of those contests resulting in their three losses this season. On the opposite end, USF's 49 points were its second-lowest figure of the season and its 18 first-half points were nearly 18 points below its season average (31.8).

Justene Charlesworth (JR/Wanatah, Ind.) led all scorers on the night with 15 points, while Andriana Acosta (SR/Crest Hill, Ill.) did the same in the rebounding department with 16, or all but nine of USF's 25 total boards. She also delivered her sixth double-double of the season with her 14 points.

Sharnita Breeze and Amber Brooks accounted for better than half of the Jaguars' scoring, finishing with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The Saints look to get back on track Saturday when they close out their four-game homestand facing Olivet Nazarene University in a 5 pm tip-off.
