Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Team Effort Nets Leage Win Over Trinity International

DEERFIELD, Ill. --- Struggling to find its shot for most of the day, the University of St. Francis women's basketball team forced 24 turnovers and got enough contributions from a lot of cast members to score a 65-39 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference decision over Trinity International University on Saturday afternoon.

Six different Saints contributed six or more points with Jordan Pyle (JR/Traralgon, Australia) leading the way in a pair of categories. She registered game highs in points (13) and steals (four) in the balanced attack, while also providing two assists. Shadrian McDaniel (JR/Chicago, Ill.) and Leah Sims (SR/Chicago, Ill.) were right behind with 12 points each, while Justene Charlesworth (JR/Wanatah, Ind.) and Andriana Acosta (SR/Crest Hill, Ill.) added nine and eight points, respectively.

Acosta also led on the boards with a game-high 15 rebounds.

Trinity International (8-10, 4-7 CCAC) tallied the first two baskets of the game before the No.20 ranked Saints closed the quarter on a 17-4 run. They then extended the lead to 28-12 midway through the second quarter only to have the Trojans get the deficit back to single digits at 30-21 by halftime.

Another TIU basket to start the third quarter made it a seven-point game before the Saints put up 14 unanswered points and the hosts never got closer than 15 points the rest of the afternoon. Fueling the burst for the Saints were Charlesworth (6 points) and McDaniel (five).

Trinity International slightly outshot St. Francis .349-.343 from the field, but the Saints were able to get 70 shots off (making 24) compared with just 43 (15 good) for the Trojans. The disparity was brought on by 14 offensive rebounds among the 33 total caroms for the Saints as well as the 24 turnovers by TIU opposite only nine for USF.

Brittany Gafare led Trinity International with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Saints (19-4, 7-2) close out the home portion of their regular season on Wednesday (Feb. 17) when they face NAIA No.19 ranked Saint Xavier at the Sullivan Center (5 pm).

The Cougars' only loss this season has come at the hands of USF (77-53 on Jan. 16 in Chicago) and they have won eight in a row since that matchup. They currently sit at 14-1 overall and 10-0 in league play.
