Saints Fall To Trinity International In CCAC Quarterfinals

DEERFIELD, Ill. --- Trinity International University outlasted the University of St. Francis women's volleyball team in a pair of extended sets to put an end to the Saints' season with a 20-25, 25-20, 31-29, 28-26 victory in the quarterfinal round of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday night.

The No.4 seed in the tournament, Trinity International (19-13) led 11-4 at the start of Set 3 and again 23-19 before the No.5 seeded Saints rallied for the next five points to go up 24-23. They, however, could not extend the unanswered run by one more point before the Trojans rallied to win the late see-saw affair.

Set 4 was a similar story with the hosts scoring the first four points before St. Francis countered to take a 10-9 lead. The rest of the set featured ten ties and four lead changes before TIU closed out the victory.

The two teams exchanged victories in the first two sets with the Saints never trailing in Set 1 and building as high as a six-point lead at 20-14. In Set 2, head coach Cara Currier's team trailed initially 8-1 and 13-4. They got as close as three points down the stretch, but could get no closer.

Laura Stefanski, Stephanie Woods, and Kaylie Sippel all produced solid attacking nights. Stefanski led the way with 16 kills, a .364 attack percentage and four blocks. Woods added eight kills and a .316 hitting clip, while Sippel had six kills without an error in 17 chances. She also authored 36 assists and ten digs to notch a double-double.

Desiree Anderson had the other double-double for USF with her 10 kills and 21 digs.

Trinity International was led by Brianna Torres' 26 kills and another 22 from Matty Hawkins.

The Saints concluded their season at 15-18 overall.
