ELGIN, Ill. --- University of St. Francis' women's basketball season and the debut of head coach
John McGinty opened on a strong note with the Fighting Saints staking claim to a 74-43 victory over Judson University in a non-conference matchup Friday night.
All 11 USF players contributed to the final point total topped by
Andriana Acosta, who notched a double-double. The senior forward hit nine of her 13 shots from the field and both free throw attempts for a game-high 21 points to go along with her 10 rebounds.
Acosta was one of three Saints to score in double figures. She was followed by
Jordan Pyle with 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists and
Shadrian McDaniel, who totaled 11 markers.
Amari Sims and Acosta fueled a huge 56-31 advantage on the boards.
St. Francis led from start to finish, building a 24-14 advantage after the first ten minutes by converting nine of its 19 field goal attempts and all five of its free throws. On the opposite end, Judson made just 3-of-12 shots from the field, but 8-of-10 from the foul line.
The Saints never led by less than ten points from the 5:42 mark of the second quarter and put the game out of reach in the third quarter when they outscored the hosts 28-7. In that ten-minute frame, USF connected on five treys and 11-of-20 shots total.
St. Francis also limited Judson to just 24.4 percent shooting (10-of-41) from the field on the night.
