LINCOLN, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's volleyball team rallied once, but could not do it a second time in eventually dropping a 25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 23-25, 16-14 decision to Lincoln College in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday night.
In each of the first two sets, Lincoln (6-23, 3-8 CCAC) used four-point runs to turn tight contests early into leads it would never relinquish. The Lynx also closed out both sets with another string of four unanswered points.
In Set 3, the Saints (12-14, 8-4) fell behind by five points twice before pulling even at 16-all. Four of the closing five points went USF's way, as well, to give head coach
Cara Currier's team its only lead of the set and force another game.
Set 4 was the most competitive one with 14 ties and six lead changes resulting. Trailing 18-17 in the late going, the Saints put up five of the next six points to rally for a 22-19 lead and the eventual two-point win to even the match up at two sets apiece.
Lincoln jumped out of the gates in Set 5, building a comfortable 6-0 advantage. The Saints, however, kept chipping away and eventually forced the only tie score of the match at 14-all. They could not keep that momentum, though, committing two attacking errors at the end to close out the match.
Desiree Anderson led all attackers with 18 kills on the night, to go along with 11 digs to notch a double-double.Â
Stephanie Woods was next in line for the Saints with her nine kills. She also had a team-high four blocks.
Other contributors included
Kaylie Sippel (25 assists),
Gabby Paelmo (15 digs), and
Hannah Monfre (15 digs).
