Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

USF Makes it Five in a Row Behind McDaniel's Career Day

JOLIET, Ill. --- A career effort from Shadrian McDaniel (JR/Chicago, Ill.) enabled the NAIA No. 13-ranked University of St. Francis women's basketball team to remain unbeaten in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play and extend its winning streak to five games with its 59-44 victory over Cardinal Stritch University at the Sullivan Center on Saturday afternoon.

For the second time this year, McDaniel hit the 20-point mark, finishing with a career-high 22 markers on 10-of-20 shooting from the field with a pair of three-pointers. She also provided three assists and two blocks.

As it has so often during the winning streak, head coach Steve Brooks' club (16-2, 4-0 CCAC) jumped out to a comfortable advantage after the first ten minutes. A closing 8-0 run to the quarter provided a 17-8 cushion at the stop and, following a three-pointer by Cardinal Stritch to start the second frame, another 9-0 burst had USF at its biggest lead of the day, 15 points.

Unlike each of St. Francis' previous four foes, though, Cardinal Stritch (5-9, 3-3) would not go down easily. The Wolves tallied the first seven points of the third quarter to pull to within 33-31 before the Saints had the lead back up to eight points (48-40) by quarter's end.

Cardinal Stritch would never threaten in the final quarter, being held to just four points, while shooting only .333 for the contest (15-for-45).

The only other player to score more than ten points on the day was Cardinal Stritch's Timeah Stotts. She netted 14 points.

USF's Andriana Acosta (SR/Crest Hill, Ill.) led on the boards again, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds, while also contributing eight points.

The Saints continue their current four-game homestand on Monday night when they face St. Ambrose University in a rescheduled CCAC contest beginning at 6 pm.
