JOLIET, Ill.--- The University of St. Francis men's basketball team had six players score in double figures to lead the Fighting Saints to an 84-67 victory Saturday afternoon at the Sullivan Center.
The win in the non-conference matchup bumped the Saints' record up to 11-6 on the season, while Cardinal Stritch fell to 0-12.
Senior guard Russell Tillery led all scorers with 16 points. The Portland native finished the game shooting 6-of-9 from the floor as well as cashing in on all four of his free throw opportunities. Joey Buggemi (JR/Frankfort, Ill.), Eric Ting (SR/Taoyuan, Taiwan) and Carlos Tovias (SR/Corsicana, Texas) each provided 12 points and shot a combined 6-for-13 from three-point range. Lewis Holey (SR/Sydney, Australia) was a force in the paint and finished with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Nadav Gerner (FR/Ganei Tikva, Israel) had his best game of the season, as well. He registered season-high totals in points (11), assists (six) and rebounds (five).
The Saints were able to pull away from Cardinal Stritch early in the first half as they outscored the Wolves, 39-28. Head coach Ryan Marks' team led by as many as 23 points in the second half, shooting 51.7 percent from the field (31-of-60). USF was able to find its range from long distance, as well, converting 10 times from beyond the arc.
Issac Hill and Chris Winters each scored 13 points for the Wolves, who shot 51 percent from the field (25-of-49).
The Saints return to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Wednesday (Feb. 3) when they take on Governors State University. USF defeated Governors State 74-66 earlier this season (Dec. 12) in a game that featured a 19-point scoring effort from Tillery. A 7:00 pm tip-off is scheduled at the Sullivan Center.
