ELGIN, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's basketball team did nothing to hurt its ranking as the third-best scoring defense in the country Monday night when it held Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Judson University to just 22.6 percent shooting from the field en route to a 64-39 victory at the Lindner Fitness Center.
Â
Judson (4-9, 0-3 CCAC) made good on just 12 of its 53 shots from the field for the contest – the lowest conversion rate against the USF defense this season – marking the third time in five January games that head coach Steve Brooks' team held the opposition under 40 points. That enabled the NAIA No.13 ranked Saints to lower their defensive scoring numbers below 50 points per game to 49.5.
Â
USF (13-2, 2-0) raced out to a 21-6 lead early in the second quarter and never led by less than 20 points after halftime. In the second quarter alone, the Saints' defense held Judson to just one field goal in 14 attempts with the Eagles' other six points in the quarter coming on free throws.
Â
St. Francis never let Judson back in the game in the second half, shooting 57.1 percent from the field after the break and better than 50 percent in three of four quarters. That resulted in USF's best shooting mark of the season (53.1 percent) with 26 field goals in 49 attempts.
Â
Ten different Saints found their name in the scoring column after all was said and done with all 15 players on the roster seeing action.Â
Â
Jordan Pyle (JR/Traralgon, Australia) had another solid game, delivering her second double-double of the season with her 17 points and 12 rebounds. She also contributed three assists and helped the Saints outscore Judson 38-20 in the paint.
Â
Leah Sims (SR/Chicago, Ill.) was the only other Saint player to finish with more than eight points, totaling 11, to go along with three steals.
Â
Daija Pruitt topped the offensive effort for Judson. She was one of only five Eagle players to score on the night, tallying 11 markers.
Â
The Saints are back in action on Saturday (Jan. 23) when they host Holy Cross College in another CCAC battle. The game is slated for a 1 pm tipoff.
