Cibulka Drives in Another Run, But Saints Fall to Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. --- Adam Cibulka (SR/Grafton, Wis.) drove in a run for the fourth straight game, but the University of St. Francis baseball team could not overcome an early three-run deficit in falling to Warner University 7-3 on Monday night at Royals Field.

Cibulka, who was one of five Saints to get a hit in the contest, has now driven in eight runs in his last four contests. He also has a team-leading 13 RBI on the season.

The senior catcher's RBI on Monday came on a single in the sixth inning and was part of a two-run inning for the Saints, who pulled to within 4-3 following a run-producing single by Jonathan Wolf (SO/Kalamazoo, Mich.). Those were two of three hits amassed by USF in the inning after being limited to three hits by Warner starting pitcher John Bean (3-2) through the first five innings.

That, however, would be as close as the Saints (5-12) would get the rest of the night as Bean closed out the contest with three innings of hitless baseball and the Royals tacked on two runs in the seventh inning and one more in the eighth.

Warner (12-18) opened up a 3-0 lead after two innings keyed by Taylor Briggs' two-run double. The two teams then exchanged single runs in the fifth inning with USF's run coming on a John Peterson (JR/Palos Heights, Ill.) double. Josh Strickland countered with the first of his two RBI singles.

David Torres also collected three hits for the winners.

Wolf was the only Saint with multiple hits, going 2-for-3, including a double.

Michael Beaudoin (JR/Sycamore, Ill.) (1-3) went the first six innings on the mound for the Saints and suffered the loss.

Up Next

The Saints return to doubleheader action on Tuesday (March 10) facing Lawrence Technological University at noon in Lake Wales before heading over to Lakeland to face NAIA No.4 ranked Southeastern University at 5:30 pm.
