Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saints Earn Win Over Aquinas Behind Isaac Brown's Goal

Joliet, Ill. - Isaac Brown (FR/Rockton, Ill.) picked an opportune time to net his first collegiate goal with the lone tally in the University of St. Francis men's soccer team's 1-0 non-conference home victory over the Aquinas Saints this Saturday (Sept. 7) afternoon at ATI Field in Joliet Memorial Stadium.

Brown's quick tap off a loose ball on the turf in the left side of the box went in between a couple of Aquinas defenders into the Saints' goal at the 81:07 mark for what was the lone score of the match. A corner kick by Stefan Jakovljevic (JR/Bregenz, Austria) set up Brown's game-winning score.

USF (2-1-2), which out shot Aquinas 16-14 in the match, was unable to score in the opening 45 minutes of play as was Aquinas (1-2-2), who was playing their second match in as many days.

Prior to Brown's heroics, USF had a good opportunity to net the match's first score as forward Reuel Erastus-Obilo (SR/Potters Bar, England)'s penalty kick attempt was stopped by Aquinas goalkeeper Antonio Strassioto.

Aquinas held an 8-7 shots advantage in the first half while USF managed to outshoot the visitors 9-6 in the second half. USF goalkeeper Carlos Ferrer Coto (JR/La Fresneda, Spain) improved to 2-1-2 on the season with a six saves performance, which was highlighted by a diving save off his fingers late in the second half with 16:32 left to preserve the shutout. Strassioto took the loss in goal or Aquinas with four stops on five shots on net faced.

For the match, USF totaled 14 corner kicks to Aquinas' one and were whistled for 19 fouls while AC garnered 11. USF was assessed four yellow cards in the physical match and Aquinas received three.

Midfielder-forward Anthony Marmolejo (FR/Plainfield, Ill.) led all players in the contest with seven total shots while Jakovlejvic, Erastus-Obilo, and Brown each generated two shots.

Next action for USF is Wednesday, Sept. 11, as the Saints visit the Indiana Northwest RedHawks in a 7:30 p.m. (CT) match at the Crown Point (Ind.) Sports Complex.
