Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Three Unanswered ONU Goals Spoil Saints CCAC Opener

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis men's soccer team built an early 2-0 lead in its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opener against Olivet Nazarene University, but could not hang on as the host Tigers rallied for three unanswered goals, including two in the second half, to come away with a 3-2 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Saints (3-2-2, 0-1 CCAC) got on the scoreboard early with Reuel Erastus-Obilo's (SR/Potters Bar, England) unassisted goal coming in the first five minutes of the contest.  Just about 20 minutes later, he notched his second multiple-goal match of the season, taking a feed from Hameed Soberu (JR/Lagos, Nigeria) at the 24:02 mark.

Olivet Nazarene (2-2-3, 1-0) was able to get one of those goals back before halftime on Thomas Barboza's team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The two teams then went scoreless for nearly 50 minutes before Olivet Nazarene's Josep Prudencio again contributed to the Tigers' scoring ledger. After assisting on Barboza's first-half tally, Prudencio tied the game with his unassisted goal at the 74:13 mark.

Just over three minutes later, Olivet Nazarene had its first lead of the game in what eventually turned out to be the game-winning goal by Daniel Kassagoma on an assist from Justin Fritz.

The Saints would only get two shots off the rest of the day, including just one on goal, as the Tigers and goalkeeper Mike Giannota stopped each of USF's final four shot attempts on goal after the initial 2-0 outburst and five overall on the day.

Carlos Ferrer Coto (JR/La Fresneda, Spain) produced eight saves for St. Francis.

Olivet Nazarene finished the match taking a total of 20 shots opposite 16 for the Saints.

St. Francis returns to conference action on Wednesday (Sept. 25) when it hosts Judson University at ATI Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium. The match is slated for a 7 pm start.
