CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --- After dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to Mount Mercy University at home one year ago, the University of St. Francis men's soccer team returned the favor on the road Wednesday night when it gained a 2-1 overtime victory at the Robert Plaster Athletic Complex.
Â
Reuel Erastus-Obilo (Potters Bar, England/Waubonsee CC) provided all the scoring for the Saints, including the game-winner 6:36 into the overtime off a feed from Brian Castillo (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central). Erastus-Obilo also tallied the only goal of the first 45 minutes when he connected from Mason Messina (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) at 23:49. It was the only shot on goal and one of just two total shots for the Saints in the opening half.
Â
Mount Mercy was also limited offensively in the opening period attempting just one shot on goal and four shots total. The Mustangs, however, broke through 3:43 into the second half with Adin Turnanovic's game-tying goal.
Â
Both teams had four other opportunities to score in the second half, but were denied each time by USF goalkeeper Carlos Ferrer Coto (La Fresneda, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio) and Mount Mercy net minder Matias da Fonseca. The Saints also attempted five other shots, while Mount Mercy put up two shots off goal.
Â
USF had the only two shots in the overtime period, including Erastus-Obilo's second game-winner as a Saint.
Â
Coto finished the night with five saves.
Â
The Saints open the home portion of their season Saturday when they take on Lincoln College in a 3 p.m. matchup at Joliet Memorial Stadium.Â
