USF Suffers Setback to Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The 19th ranked University of St. Francis men's basketball team put forth a commendable performance in this Saturday's (Nov. 23) exhibition contest against Incarnate Word, but came out on the short end of a 68-44 decision to the Cardinals in second-round action of the Incarnate Word Invitational at UIW's McDermott Center.
 

USF was led in scoring by guards Malik Bailey (SR/Tutwiler, Miss.) and Eric Ting (JR/Taoyuan, Taiwan), who posted 11 and 10 points, respectively. Guard Cole Micek (SR/Los Angeles, Calif.) contributed nine points and foward Lewis Holey (JR/Sydney, Australia) added six points. UIW also had two players in double-figure scoring as Bryce Davis netted a game-high 14 points and Dwight Murray contributed 13 points.
 

In rebounding, Holey grabbed nine boards whie Bailey hauled in six rebounds and Ting compiled five caroms. UIW's Vincent Miszkiewicz's 11 rebounds led all players in the contest.
 

The Saints shot 29.3 percent (17-58) for the game and were eight-of-28 in three-pointers for 28.6 percent success. USF made two-of-four free throw attempts for 50 percent.  UIW would go 50 percent (24-48) in field goal tries, 28.6 percent (2-7) in treys, and 78.3 percent (18-23) at the free throw line.
 

USF registered a 16-7 advantage in second-chance points, but UIW led in points in the paint (40-14), fast-break points (15-6), points off turnovers (20-9), and bench points (29-6).
 

The Cardinals began the contest by going on an 8-0 scoring run, but USF countered scoring seven unanswered points to draw within one point and then started to drain two of its seven first-half three pointers on the Saints' next two scoring possessions. UIW would put together another 8-0 scoring run as the hosts led 20-15. However, USF knocked down four three-point field goals to claim a 31-29 lead at the half.
 

UIW, who would outscore USF 39-13 in the second 20 minutes of action, was able to regain the lead at 41-35. The Cardinals proceeded to outscore the Saints 18-4 and then closed out the game by generating a 15-0 scoring run.
