Matt Eber was named the head coach of the University of St. Francis men’s golf team in July of 2026. The 2026-27 season will mark Eber’s first year as head coach.
Eber concurrently serves as the head varsity golf coach at Lockport Township High School, a position he accepted in 2012 after serving as the Porters’ junior varsity coach from 2006-11. In his 15th season as the head of the Porter varsity program, Eber has led his teams to 18 invitational championships, seven Southwest Suburban Conference crowns, four IHSA regional titles, three IHSA sectional championships, and qualified for the IHSA state tournament on six occasions. Three of those teams earned Top 10 finishes in the state, with the 2018 squad placing third and the 2019 club sixth.
In all, Eber-led varsity teams have produced a 145-44 overall record for a .767 winning percentage. He has mentored four IHSA individual state qualifiers, including 2018 and 2019 individual state champion Ben Sluzas.
A member of the Illinois Coaches Association, Illinois Athletic Directors Association and National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, Eber has organized and instructed junior camps at Lockport since 2006.
Before his stint with Lockport, Eber began his coaching career in 1995 as the assistant varsity golf coach at Morris Community High School for two seasons before delving into coaching baseball and basketball there and at Saratoga Junior High and Plainfield North High School before returning to golf when he took the reins at Lockport in 2006.
Eber earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Education with a minor in Business Administration from Illinois State University in 1994 and completed a Master's degree in Educational Leadership at Aurora University in 2006.
