HANOVER PARK, Ill. ---
Sebastian Bahamondes and
Paul Wottgen each took their singles matches to a third-set tie-breaker, but came up short in the end as the University of St. Francis men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Wheaton College on Saturday night.
Wheaton (4-3) opened the match by winning 8-4 and 8-5 in the first two doubles slots. The Thunder claimed the other doubles victory by default.
In singles play, Bahamondes rallied from a first-set deficit at No. 1. After falling 7-6, he won Set 2 6-3 before dropping the tie-breaker 10-6.
At No. 3, Wottgen opened with a 6-1 victory before Jack Wenzel rallied to win Set 2 (7-5) and the tie-breaker (10-7).
Ignacio Hernandez provided the only other competitive singles match, losing 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2. He also teamed with Bahamondes in the 8-4 doubles match.
Wottgen teamed with
Aidan Flores in the 8-5 contest.
The Saints face Prairie State College at noon on Sunday.
