DANVILLE, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's tennis team gave NCAA I Eastern Illinois University all it could handle before eventually falling 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Danville Tennis Center.
Eastern Illinois (3-3) built a 1-0 advantage by sweeping the three doubles matches. The team of
Lieke Coenen and
Anna Bintsarovskaya provided the most competitive match in doubles play, falling 7-5 at No. 1. The Panthers won the other two matches by 6-3 and 6-0 counts.
Singles play is where things got interesting with three Saints playing to a third set, including both Bintsarovskaya and Coenen again. The former lost 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 at No. 2 with Coenen yielding 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 4.
Gabriella Noa also forced a third set at No. 3 before falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.Â
The Saints (0-1) host another NCAA I program in Chicago State University next Sunday at 4:30 pm.
